In 1983, the Sherbrooke-based company, Cartophilium, issued a set of 240 postcards featuring every member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1985, the company released the same set in the standard 2.5" x 3.5" card size. The 1985 cards had a 1983 copyright in the lower right corner of the back side of the card. In Montreal, the cards were available through a promotion with The Gazette newspaper, where you could order them by mail or pick them up at the newspaper's office. The Gazette sold the cards in 12 different series of 20 cards each. In 1987, Cartophilium rereleased the set and added 21 new cards featuring the newly elected members of the Hall of Fame. The 1987 cards had no copyright date on the back of the card. The newer versions of the cards had year-by-year statistics for every player; the original versions did not. The cards feature the artwork of Carlton McDiarmid, who, in addition to being a talented artist, was also a goal judge at the Montreal Forum. See "Captured on Canvas" for more details.
